Wow, despite the unseasonable heat inside my apartment that caused me to have to reengage my air conditioning, this week has been very productive for me poetry-wise. As I said before, I've been pretty determined regarding developing new material for my manuscript, and conveniently, inspiration decided to strike a couple days ago.
Personally, I can never write unless this very unique mood and feeling comes over me, and if I don't write and write hard that very moment, I may lose it within the hour. It's so fleeting, this mood, and when I finally catch it, I entice it to stay as well as I can. However, it is fickle and leaves at a moments notice for stupid reasons like heat, so I'm struggling with quashing the pissed-off frustration and migraine that came from getting a little overheated so that I can maybe keep being productive for the rest of the night. I'm not entirely sure if it'll come back at all though...
However, I've managed to squeeze out some words (some better than others), and with that, I think I'll present you with the last poem I wrote before things got heady. I'm not sure whether or not it meets my standards yet; I won't know until I come back to it with a clearer mind. Chances are it probably won't and will have to be rehashed a bit, although I am liking the last stanza. Heck, I've already slashed two whole stanzas and added one since I started this blog. Isn't it interesting to take a look at the drawing board sometimes, to see behind the scenes of the creative process, to examine a work in progress and try to imagine where it might go?

Sharing a Bed
With a thump-thumpy heart,
I checked my leg for pricks
and made a move that didn't go unnoticed
toward the nervous edge.
Desperately close,
clawing through a valley of shrills,
somehow I traveled forward.
Then of a sudden,
I had made it into your bed,
and with a supreme stroke of luck,
found myself alone with you,
alone under the sheets,
alone under the watchtower
that shimmied us apart with its gaze.
We slept at once,
but miles apart, dreaming perhaps
that the unspanable chasm
was slamming shut between us,
locking together with the
heavy thunder of
a mountain range being born.
When I opened my eyes from this,
there you were,
your fingers inches from mine,
your eyes caught flicking in the dawn.
Amazed, I made to touch you
but found my hand alone,
scrambling over the sheet plain
left warm by your rushing blood.
